COPYCAT Starbucks Chai Tea Latte

Okay, I have to admit--I’ve never been a big fan of Starbucks coffee (it's too rich for my tastebuds) so naturally, I never understood why everyone liked it so much... sorry to all the major Starbucks lovers out there!

But any time a birthday or holiday came around, I would receive handfuls of gift cards to Starbucks. Sometimes I would give them away, sometimes I would decide to use them and give a drink I hadn't tried yet a chance, but usually, I was disappointed once again.

Finally, through a recommendation from I friend, I tried one of their drinks that didn't contain coffee at all, which was their chai tea latte...boy I'm glad I didn't give up on them because now here I am making a homemade version of this drink because I love it so much!

This is a copycat version of Starbuck's chai tea latte that is surprisingly simple to make and can save you money and the hassle of having to go somewhere to get it.

I highly recommend having either a frother or immersion blender at your house if you're going to make this recipe so you can create that fun and frothy texture.

I use the Zulay milk frother because it's small, comes in so many fun colors, and easy to use and clean! I use my frother not only for this recipe but also in my morning coffee as well.

Prep time: 2-3 minutes Cook time: 10 minutes Serving(s): 2 cups

Ingredients:

  • 2 chai tea bags
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 ½ cups milk (your choice)
  • 1-2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • Cinnamon to top (optional)

Directions:

  1. Bring water to boil in a small saucepan or pot, add tea bags, and let them steep in boiling water for 5-7 minutes
  2. Remove tea bags, reduce heat to medium, and add in milk and honey
  3. Let the milk and honey warm on medium heat for approximately 5 minutes
  4. Remove from heat. Using either a frother or immersion blender, stir the liquid until it becomes frothy
  5. Pour liquid into a cup, sprinkle with cinnamon, and enjoy!

And there you have a super simple copycat recipe for a homemade chai tea latte!

This is my go-to drink on the days I’m working from home, it’s so nice to take a break and come back to work with this easy-to-make and delicious latte.
