Common Myths About Intuitive Eating

Here are some of the common myths I’ve come across in my time learning about intuitive eating1. While intuitive eating is not a diet designed to help you “lose 20 lbs in 2 weeks”, it can result in weight loss because you will learn to be more in tune with your body’s needs. But the beautiful thing about intuitive eating is that we stop prioritizing weight loss and we start prioritizing having a healthy relationship food, which helps us focus on nourishing our mind and body to achieve overall wellness2. Intuitive eating isn’t giving up on your health goals and eating whatever you want. It means you learn to appreciate nourishing your body with whole foods while also allowing yourself to enjoy foods you once considered “unhealthy” without feeling guilt3. While intuitive eating can help you create a healthy relationship with food and may be great for someone who is recovering from an eating disorder, it may not be the right answer for someone who currently suffers with an eating disorder.
