6 Things We Need to Normalize About Eating Food
Do you feel like you’re constantly being bombarded with conflicting messages about food?? It’s almost impossible to keep anything straight with all the ”food rules” out there, so how can you expect to know what’s the best choice for you and your body with all these mixed messages?!The short answer is: listen to and trust YOUR body…but there’s a lot more mindset work to it than simply listening to your body and I really encourage you to reach out to me if you’re interested in learning more about how I can help you reframe your mindset around food…but that is not the point of this postThe point is to share six things that we need to normalize about eating food in order to help you navigate some of those mixed diet messages out there. Because in all honesty, most diet rules out there are complete bullsh*t…I said what I said 👀
Eating past 8pm
Your body has no clue what time it is! Your metabolism isn’t changing as soon as the clock strikes a certain time so this means your body doesn’t digest and store food differently simply because it’s nighttime. So, there’s nothing wrong with being hungry and eating later at night. If you feel like you’re constantly snacking every night and overdoing it when it comes to food, then there are likely some other things going on such as not enough food earlier in the day.
Eating the burger with a real bun
When did it become such a common thing to replace EVERY carb you eat with a veggie like cauliflower, tomatoes, or peppers..and does your burger truly even taste good in between two tomato slices or peppers?? If it truly tastes good and satisfies your hunger in the same way a burger with a bun does, then, by all means, enjoy! But it’s so unnecessary to replace a bun with a veggie in the name of ”health” or to cut back on carbs.Carbs are your body’s preferred source of energy and by not giving your body enough carbs to function throughout the day, you’re making your body work harder than it really needs to. Finding ways to enjoy fruits and veggies in ways that you truly love
It’s no secret that foods like fruits and veggies are beneficial to your health, but you don’t have to dread or force yourself to eat raw fruits and veggies if you really don\’t like them that way.Make eating fruits and veggies really satisfying for you, whether that’s adding them to dishes or making them in ways that you truly enjoy, make it work for you!
Saying no to foods you don’t want to eat
Have you ever had someone offer you food, such as at a party or work, and truly not want what they were offering you? But you take it anyway and eat it because you don\’t want to be rude…?Well, I promise it\’s not rude and if you really aren\’t hungry or the food being offered isn\’t your fav thing, you can kindly decline.Side note: Some people will give you a harder time for declining food, it\’s inevitable, but this is a great time to learn to set boundaries with others 🙂
Having dessert after dinner
Like I said above, if you're really not hungry, especially after dinner, you can decline dessert and save it for a time when you feel hungrier. But, if you want the dessert after dinner because you’re still hungry or simply because it sounds good, eat and enjoy it 😋
Eating the amount that feels right to you and not eating the amount the box says
Have you ever looked at the nutrition label on a package and made yourself feel like the ”serving size” was the only amount you were supposed to eat? And then felt guilty if you ate more than what the serving size stated? Yeah…me too 🙋🏻♀️That package doesn’t know you, your lifestyle, or your body, and the nutrition label is meant to be for information, not to dictate your food choices! So eat the amount that feels right to you and your body at the time. What do you think about normalizing these ideas around food?
